Have you ever wondered where the soft silk comes from and how it is made? Well silk comes from silk worms. The process was started in 2600 BC, during the Han Dynasty. When the silk worm makes it cocoon it is spun out of silk. A single cocoon had about 1,968 feet! I don't know what you think about that but I think it is a lot of silk! To get the silk the larva must be killed first. To do this they place the cocoon in hot water. After that they must unravel the cocoon. It is a very careful and patient process.

Great research!! Those poor little silk worms. I wonder what they must feel when they are boild? I had no clue that a single cocoon is able to be 1,968 feet! Have you figured out how they get the bright colors into the fabric?
ReplyDeleteIt must have taken a really long time to unravel the cocoons
